Las Vegas, NM Thanks for the info. The local weather report on local news is expecting La Nina to continue thru the winter. I must admit it is nice to not have the humidity and rain BUT... hay is a problem... in any form. Some are just going week by week as the fuel to go get some, plus the cost of the hay, has many in a bind for the hay budget!!! LA sent hay to TX to sell and it is a bit stemy but better than none. Horses are being fed alternative feeds to keep the nutrition up. I am between jobs and that is another issue. Jobs in TX are pretty slim. May have to work out of state again... darn, just can't seem to get into a good cycle. Many horses have been sent to auction and that is not good as it is a buyers market and there are not many buyers!!!! I am hanging on for now.... just can't send any to auction!! Did get 2 sold.. but way below last yrs low market!!

Las Vegas, NM I am back in E TX. While traveling from NV to TX, I got 100+ bales of GREAT bermuda for $19 in NM and $22 in NV. Wish I had room to bring some back but was returning to TX after a 6 month job contract.
Where are people getting hay? I do have an offer but have to drive 600 miles one way with lowboy gooseneck trailer a friend will loan me. It makes the price of the 60# bales about $9.
Has anyone feed rice hay??? Or any other ideas.... |
