Coronado, CA How lovely that you are honouring this great man. I never met him but am happy that you are sharing his greatness and kindness. The story of him giving help to an injured rider is wonderful. I'm sure he is in heaven riding like crazy and having fun. Sending love to all those he left behind as he will surely be missed. x |

Adkins, TX God Bless You! |
| Bill was one of the first ES members I met, and he used to have me in stitches laughing at some of the stories he would tell in the chatroom. When we finally met in person, I was pleased to discover he was the "real deal", exactly the same as he was online. He loved to laugh and make others laugh with him. He was often the life of the party, and enjoyed life to the fullest. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family, and to the many friends who will miss him too. RIP cowboy.

| Well, what can I say, Bill was a well loved guy, his laughter, humor, big smiles and jokes. He was a great friend to many besides myself. I am still in shock over this but Bill you will be missed for sure and our love goes with you. God bless the family and help them heal.

| It seems hard to believe and I guess I am still in shock hearing this news. Bill was larger than life, and a great friend to so many people on the site. He even donated a beautiful buckskin filly for a benefit at Tim's house. It is going to take time to sink in. I met him in the summer of 2002 as he was one of the early ES members. To say he will be missed is a bit of an understatement. I do hope you are hanging with Tim and all the others we lost through the year. Rest in Peace, Old friend. You will be missed by so many...

Central, TX Bill's obituary
William Arthur Masterson, age 69, of Guthrie, Texas; May 10, 1947-September 27, 2016. Life happens along that dash, between those dates. William Masterson, known as "Bill", was a man who was loved by many and truly loved life. This was evident by his infectious smile, silly jokes and boisterous laughter.
Bill grew up in Guthrie, Texas, on the JY Ranch. He graduated from Texas Tech University in 1969 with a BS in Animal Science; he continued to support the university long after his graduation, serving as a beef coach, board member of the Range and Wildlife Management division and scholarship donor for the Red Raider Club. Bill served as president of the American Shorthorn Association, secretary of the Masterson Management Corporation, and the board of directors for the National Cattlemen’s Association, Brazos River Authority, King County Tax Appraisal District, First National Bank of Paducah, and the Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. He also received his Texas State Honorary FFA degree in addition to breeding and showing many outstanding cutting horses.
He lived most of his life on the JY Ranch with his horses, cattle, welsh corgi dogs and family. He loved to hunt, fish and play golf. His nine grandchildren called him "Papaw" and he spoiled them with his favorite things: donuts, Blue Bell ice cream, birthday parties, jolly ranchers and Jujy fruits. Bill lived out his love of God best by his stewardship of land and his love for people. He rarely met a stranger and was a great friend to many, who will no doubt miss receiving his telephone calls.
Bill left this earth surrounded by his four loving children; Scotta Knight and husband Tadd, Robert Masterson and wife Wendy, Lisa Russell, and Laurie Bryson and husband Caleb; grandchildren, Kristen and Cameron Knight, Hadley Ray, Mattie Masterson, Alex Masterson, Sidney and Ben Russell, and Grace and Evie Bryson and many close friends he considered family. We will all get through the loss of this larger than life man by the words he told us often, "One Day at a Time".
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 11 am with visitation one-hour prior at the Guthrie Activity Center, Guthrie, Texas. The family will be hosting a meal, celebrating the life of Bill immediately following the funeral. Graveside services will follow at the family cemetery at the JY Ranch.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests memorials to the Bill Masterson Educational Scholarship Fund at Western Bank, 5701 82nd Street, Lubbock, Texas 79424, or call 806.798.9700. |
