![]() | The hay situation is bad. I had a barn full of good hay and alfalfa and as I lost my barn roof... it all molded. But we do have good grass even if it is a bit washy. Since my pasture fences are down, I have been grazing my horses in my yard and they just love to come up to the house and peer in the windows and doors. One of my mares was looking in my daughters window last night and scared her to death! I guess she wasn't expecting a horse nose to be pressed up against her bedroom window! Now they just open the window and call them over. Its fun for them. They start back to school on Monday. I think they have enjoyed their little vacation. For them, its like summer again. Our curfew has been lifted and many restaurants are starting to open now. My kids aren't real thrilled that the Sonic got destroyed though! Things are getting back to normal... whatever that is. I am just ready for a little bit of cool weather to head our way... |
![]() | Ok here's more: we had limited supplies as far as geroceries, as most of the stores were closed. Lots of the stuff spoiled. I'm sure the hay and all at feed stores may have gotten moldy due to gitting wet (provided the roof blew off). Most of the gas is limited (still as far as I know), had curfews in some counties/ cities. Even in Mississip this happened with the gas. To make matters worse (least for me) mom's "disabled" an can't help much. But we are survivin'. |

![]() | 1. FYI Coastal hay is usually about 12% protein. I have been feeding it free choice for over 20 yrs. 2. My place in TX is only 25 miles from Colmesneil. As I am working in WA, I was not there for the 'festivities'. 3. My daughter is in Lufkin. She said there are LOTS of electric poles down in that area. Travel is also restricted. I have no idea if anything is left at my place. However, I am sure the grass and weeds are doing fine!! 4. As this is the usual place they evacuate to from Pt Arthur and Houston, it never expected to have hurricane force winds and was not prepared. 5. Lufkin now is getting gasoline supplies. I am told water plants are getting electric first so people at least have water. 6. Now it is COLD there with overnight temps down to 55. That is one week after triple digits. 7. TX is one place that lives up to the saying: if you don't like the weather wait a minute. It is not unusual to have it go from 80 to 30 in a few hours. 8. HOWEVER, neighbors help neighbors in TX so they will survive this mess. |
![]() | Ok I'm back from a 2 week stay in Mississippi. We lost power, stuff like that. There are plenty of trees down on our property, fence down. Luckily we didn't have any animals. The worst that happened was some shingles, the porch, and patio roofs were torn up. That an the trees. It coulda been worse. My uncle had a tree fall into his "new" den. His horses and cattle didn't git loose far as I know. But this thing came through Orange, Pt Arther an Beaumont. My uncles youngest (works for entergy) said Bridge City was Litterally gone. I'll update more as I remember. Oh and Tom, I think I live right down the road from Your aunt n uncle. Looked like some of thier place was damaged. Dunno bout how they faired Kota |
![]() | Rita came thru txctrygal's town and she has no power or water and will not have any for at least a month, could be longer. William is taking her feed and hay for her horses today. She said the mail is running and if anyone wants to send her a care package, I will post her address below. The store that she worked at is no longer there, it's gone. Her address is: Jen Fry P.O.Box 883 Colmesneil, TX 75938 409-429-4833 (cell) THANKS!!!!! Jens' home was not damaged, she does have a tree that is dangling on another tree and if they don't get it tied off or cut down, it's gonna go right thru her house! Her main thing is that she has no power or water and will not have any for at least a month, maybe longer! That means no cooking, no a/c, no heat.....she does have a g/f that has running water, so she can go take showers there. She also is probably not gonna have a job either, because the roof is off of the store that she worked at! I KNOW that Jen would welcome ANY kind of help that you have in your heart! If yall want to help out, and don't know what to do, give Jen a call, her cell is working and I am sure she would love to hear from ya! She is out of the loop with no computer or television. Just a phone call would mean alot!!!! Thanks!!!! OH AND CCG3.....she did tell me that she slept in the CONDO one night!!!!! and since she is sleeping outside, she might could use some insect repellant! Citrinella candles....things like that! It's very primitive in that area of Texas....they really got hit hard people!!!!! |
![]() | First load of hay will arrive at the Ford Center in Beaumont Texas on Monday, October 3rd. They are okay for hay this weekend but will need more on Monday.. We are sending 350 bales of beautiful Coastal. If you know of people needing hay, please tell them to contact the Ford Center on Saturday. They also said this hay was high in protein so people should not free choice feed it. Thank you to the many members of our ES community who made this second delivery possible: http://www.equestriansingles.com/photoalbum/default.asp?p=38 Thanks to Montewalsh for getting the ball rolling. More thanks to Tom (htc9176) & William (tex1511966) for their hard work on the ground in the affected areas. You both are making a real difference in people's lives... Thanks :) |
