"The Budd De Rosa".... he's a standard bred colt... his sire is "Budd For Life" and his mare is "Keystone Rosedale" aka "Rosie"... she's out of "The Panderosa"... so... I named him after his sire and De Rosa.. in spanish meaning from the rose... and also from "The Panderosa"... he was foaled 6/23/2007 -- IF all goes well, he will be on the track at Cal Expo Harness as a 2 yr old next year !!

I have 2 QH. My palamino filly is golden cherokee sunrise (Cherokee for short though). I name her that because she reminds me of the Indians. My bay gelding is Maverick. I named him that well just because I like the name.

CW - congrats on your new horse! My new head horse came with the name Jake. After a few name changes..he became "Grandpa". I bet no one has ever heard a horse called that!

I have a new chestnut and white paint. He is a bit on the stocky side but very handsome. His registered name is Sally's Sultan but he sure doesn't look like a Sultan. There are some great names on this post and I copied some of my favorite ones... Was also thinking about names that were from Native American Tribes. Any suggestions? Thanks, Marcia

We also had two other male horses with us that I took care of. One was named brownie but was changed to braumie which is celtic for "Raven" because he was a soft black in color. The was named "Brogan." It's celtic too. i don't remember the meaning of his name at the moment. He was a in your pocket type of solid grulla BS paint out of Scottish will / smooth cherokee on dams side and Blue Valentine and Poco bueno on sires side.

I have had 2 horses of my own. The first one I named him "Duncan." The lady I got him from bought him from an auction in Duncan Oklahoma. he wasn't registered, but I jokingly said his name was "Zipsdunkinchip" and that he has QH pleasure horse bloodlines (he did float when moving). The 2nd horse I had was registered with AQHA and PHBA but never could get his papers. His barn name is "Paulo" Maybe because he was a palomino or because he was such a classy man in manners. lol

I have Icelandics, they get Icelandic names according to either color, or happenings around their birth or character: Alfur = elf : he was very ill when he was small, and so "see-through" that nobody would notice him in the pasture, hence the name. Ran= wife of the sea god Aegir: Ran loves to swim through the lake out of the pasture.... Geira= spear : She is a determined goal-oriented FAST horse... Drifa = snow drift : she was born on the 1st November into a snow drift Glymjandi = the thundering one : he loves to "thunder" up and down the hills at enormous speed, just for fun Loftfari: Air farer : He dances and flies when he trots and gaits, appears to never touch the ground Blanda= where glacier water meets normal river water..sort of milky : this mare is a red dun tobiano roan mare and the name fits the color perfectly Saeros = rose of the sea : She is extraordinarily pretty, hence a pretty name... There are more., but I won't bore ya....lol Andrea fiddlinvet
