Hurricane Rita-Texas Coast Evacuations - Relief/Rescue etc

I spoke to Jen and gave her Tom's cell phone number. She was going to call him. Between Tom and William, I'm sure it will be a big help. If anyone already has information about a distribution/staging area to deliver hay and feed to this area, please let me know. You can email me or reply here. You don't have to be premium to post on the Emergency Management Catagory.

Does anyone have Jen's (txctrygal) phone number? Tom (htc) is in Beaumont and can help her. Please email me the number to Marcia@equestriansingles.com Tom is helping Beaumont residents now, and is planning on delivering the next load of hay next week. Thanks

To get news about E TX, put in Lufkin Daily News. There is also links for road closures. Or you can put the county into your search engine. Smaller communities hit hard with wind over 100 mph over 150 miles from shore line. Most have NO electric, water or phones and will be last to get help. News etc is only covering the big cities. Some are leaving TX due to jobs being closed and are going to MS, LA to work for more money. Jasper TX reported several hours of winds over 90 mph. Not expected in a place that is usually for those leaveing the coastline. Lufkin is where the Houston and Galveston folks go for safety and it sustained hurricane type winds. Heard that the road my place is on is closed. Due to the road jams many did not leave Houston area when they heard Rita went eastward. Overall, a lot of devastation for all of us as it will be affecting everyone one way or another. Time to pick up pieces and go one. Good luck to all.

I heard today you cant get past Winnie on I10 coming from Houston area, but I'm not sure if these people knew. I was standing in line at Lowes and over heard them talking about it.

Does anyone know if I10 is open through to Lake Charles yet?

just got in from beaumont - vidor area today, beaumont is closed at this time only way in is by permit,(never seen so many dps troopers in one place) looks like evac went well for people and animals, there is very little gas and very long lines (like 1-2 miles) where there is gas. area is hit pretty hard, very similar to hurricane fran in NC 1996, lots trees down, herd estimate of as many as 18000 highline poles, it is a mess. red cross is there in beaumont, as are many elec. people, very little is open, there, as was the way down, went through lufkin back through livingston. I 10 is open through area you just can't get off of it with out permit. looks like needs are gonna be fencing materials, and possibly feed depending on each situation, Woodville on down is hit pretty hard many trees down roof's off and lines down. will let yall know anything I see that will be needed, after people startgetting back nedds will be easier to assess thanks wm

A member on the site wanted this info posted: Have room for displaced horses from hurricane "Rita". I have a ranch 20 minutes east of San Antonio, Texas. Set up for Draft horses, but can take on smaller stock. Please pass on. Thank you, Cynthia Neufeld belgian1@sbcglobal.net

I just talked to Kota, they got out before the storm and are safe in Mississippi at her Aunts...WHEW!

Ya'll the SBC center/convention center in San Antonio(35 S to SBC center exit, turn left) has 230 stalls available...they have only 6 horses there....that is soo sad.......I live off of I 10 also...traffic is horrible here....thank goodness there are DOT people taking people gas, who have run out before they can get to the station.....and the prices at the pump are the same...for now...

It looks like those of us in South Central Texas are out of harms way...for now anyway. I got this information this morning and wanted to post this for everyone else in the storms wake after what I went through trying to figure out what I was going to do with my horse and dogs before the storm turned. A BIG thanks to Lin S. for sending this and God bless the people at Horse Gazette for getting the information together!! Below is a link to all the shelters that will take horses and small animals as well. There is also a list of a couple of other places that aren't on the website list. Additionally, I heard that the San Antonio fair grounds are taking horses but I don't have any contact information. I'm sure Travis county fairgrounds is taking animals too but I haven't heard anything. http://www.horsegazette.com/emergency.htm * Gonzales Arena has 200 stalls and arena and 150 RV hook up sites. * Williamson County (Round Rock/Georgetown) has 150 stalls. * Diamond W Arena, in Alvarado, has 235 stalls for rent for displaced horses. $5.00 per stall, and they have some hay and bedding for sale. (Not making any money, just trying to help folks out. They also have approx 200 acres of pasture. Call Lisa at 817-790-5952 or 817-995-0230 Good luck to everyone who's in the path of this storm. You're ALL in my thoughts and prayers! Vaughn
