Hi Everybody!
When I bought my bay quarter horse, his registered name was Bay Bon Ricvic, and he was called Ricky. That didn't set well with me. I was at the fence watching him play, prance and run out in the pasture after I brought him home. He was so beautiful when he ran - just like the wind. From that moment on I called him Windy. He had no trouble answering to his new name - it had the same rhythm as his old name. We spent a lot of time together. Didn't need to gentle him, I think he was just born that way. A neighbor of mine helped me train for barrels. Windy took to it and our times were good! He was everything I could have wanted in a horse. Most days I would come home from school, saddle(Western) him up, and off we'd go, all around the high hills and through the woods. At the end of each school year, I would invite my first graders and their parents for the class picnic at my place. How the kids loved Windy! Each child rode in the saddle and I jumped on behind. What a thrill it was for the kids. Windy could have gone round and round the yard all by himself with each child. I'm sure he knew just how precious each little buckaroo was! Even some of the parents would ride with their children. I could share stories about our adventures from now until well after sunset tomorrow! That was a loooong time ago, and Windy has since passed on. I still miss him. I've heard it said there is that one horse who comes into your life and winds up in your soul. That was Windy.

He's an Appaloosa, I call him "Frog" becuase he's got a spot on his hip that looks like a frog or a maple leaf. But if I want him to sound like the gorgeous horse that he is I call him Cayenne, because he looks like he's been sprinkled with red pepper. I've been told that it's hard to get an older horse registered but I'd sure like to try, the previous owner said he has a "Breeders Certificate" for him, he's 17 years old.

My daughter decided to name our (new) horses after American cities....so far, we have Boston, Vegas , and Hollywood. Boston (my filly) recently went lame in both front feet, so I'm looking for a ride for the summer, while Bos recovers from her injuries. I'm thinking of naming the new horse Telluride....'cause I'll be riding it TIL I RIDE Boston, again. Get it???? (okay. that was pretty lame, even for me. will probably name the horse that, tho, lol)
